Sleek SEXY Stems

DARE TO WEAR 'EM SHORT!

If New York Fashion Week was a precursor to summer skin, then things are lookin' pretty sexy. The slew of sky-high LEGS set the tone for sleek summer stems begging to be exposed. To prep legs for their bare-all summer lovin', I recommend exfoliating and infusing skin with moisture, on a DAILY basis. Adding a bit of color will kick the fab-leg factor up a notch, but read on to see what method works best for your lifestyle:

SCRUB YOUR WORRIES AWAY

Mix up the scrub factor by alternating granular scrubs (like a salt or sugar scrub) with an acid exfoliator like a Glycolic cleanser. Glycolic is an alpha hydroxy acid which stimulates cell turnover über-effectively, rendering skin silky soft, smooth and renewed.

Always exfoliate before you shave or wax (this will alleviate unsightly in-grown hairs), and never forget to hydrate the skin. I swear by dry oils like Argan or Seasame Seed oil. They add silky richness to skin whilst adding a luminous sheen. Oils have gotten a bad rap in years past, however, their re-birth has been a game changer in the world of hydrated, healthy skin. Dry oils have the capability of penetrating the skin more effectively than creams, due to their smaller molecular structure (smaller molecules result in deeper product penetration). Your skin's surface does NOT negotiate. If a molecule is too large to penetrate its barrier, the product will simply sit on top of the epidermis, rather than penetrate deep within the  dermal layers of the skin. Trust me, you want deep penetration.

COLOR ME HAPPY!

To kick-up-the-sexy a few notches, rub your legs with a nickel-sized dollup of tinted illuminator like Scott Barnes Body Bling ($42 RickysNYC.com). This product leaves skin shimmery, bronzed and gorgeously sun-kissed; there ain't nothin' more sexy than that!

Sally Hansen Air Brush Legs ($12.99 ULTA.com) is another one of my favorites. For easy application, spray this product into the palm of your hand and massage an even coat onto your legs. Spider veins, bruises, uneven skin tone....it practically disappears! You're left with a waterproof veil of shimmery, bronzed, flawless legs, how fabulous!

For added dimension, I like to layer leg makeup with a highlighting powder, specifically on the tops of my shins. Laura Mercier, Radience Baked Body Bronzer ($55 Sephora.com) is a high-powered bronzer and a MUST HAVE to keep legs perpetually glowing, especially when you're on the go and don't have time to apply a bronzing cream ......and the best part is that I can use it on my arms, face and décolleté for on-call illumination for any part of my body, how fantastic!

HERE COMES THE (faux) SUN

I'm a huge fan of sunless tanning, but not a fan of the orange look. Sun Laboratoies Tanning System ($27 SunLabsOnLine.com) has perfected a formula which renders skin Godness-like, and the only thing orange about it is their product label. It goes on tinted which makes for a quick and easy application. If you're relatively low-maintenance and would rather not fuss with leg makeup, self tanner is a terrific option. A sun-kissed glow is desirable, the sun's UVA/UVB rays are not. Sunless tanning products like this are what Martha would call "a good thing".

Whatever product you choose to exfoliate, hydrate and illuminate your legs with is completely up to you. The point is to consciously and deliberately care for legs, and make them the star of the summet-skin-show! A woman's legs beg to be flaunted. If you suffer from spider or varicose veins, a body bronzer may help to hide their appearance. If your esthetic issue is more severe or if you suffer from Strawberry Legs, reach out to me and I will help you figure out a solution. Long, short, muscular or lean, own up to the magnificence of your stems and flaunt them proudly!

Negative Hair: get rid of it! It'll negate your esthetic

120-degrees of deliciousness is what this is. WAXING unwanted hair is a good thing. I often write about my "4 Elements of Harmonic Beauty" theory; this includes NEGATIVE hair, such as ARM hair. Unwanted hair compromises your esthetic balance. You can spend countless hours on your skin-care, makeup and brows, however, if you don't manage that upper lip hair, that arm hair, or ANY other area that begs to be fuzz-free, you'll NEGATE your esthetic balance.

IMPORTANT TIP: Never, EVER, wax the eyebrows. This is the thinnest skin on your body and  requires a gentle touch. Hand-tweezing is the only form of hair removal that I recommend for the eyebrows, it's the only process of shaping that can truly maintain the brow's true shape and integrity. As far as your other fuzzy body-bits? Try lazer hair removal, electrolysis, OR enjoy 120 degrees of pure waxed bliss :)

Do not ignore CYSTIC ACNE: it may lead to scarring

Chronic conditions like ACNE must be nipped in the bud. If ignored, acne legions can lead to permanent scarring...yikes! There are 4 levels of acne: the first two are "mild to moderate" usually occurring in pubescent teens, with the bulk of the legions being, primarily, small white-heads with a cluster of black-heads intermixed. When acne morphs into larger legions (as shown in the photo), you need to consult with a DERMATOLOGIST. Facial cysts should never EVER be "picked or popped" by one's own hand. The P-Acnes Bacteria, which is causing the problem, needs to be eradicated. The manipulation of ones own face can lead to further irritation, permanent scarring, as well as the spreading of even more bacteria.....resulting in more acne legions! I strongly recommend that folks with level 3 & 4 acne, (cystic), consult with a trusted Dermatologist. Your condition may require oral anti-biotics as well as a medical-grade topical treatment. Don't have a trusted Derm? Message me and I'll recommend the best for your skin.

get DIRTY and DETOXIFY your skin

Luminous DETOXIFIED skin isn't an urban myth, you simply need to get down-n-dirty with your skincare regime. Hair follicles are the super highway for hair growth, as well as sebaceous and sudoriferous gland production (oil & sweat). Aside from acting as our body's built-in cooling system, the sudoriferous "sweat" glands release the toxins and impurities that render skin lackluster. Skin works autonomously but welcomes a boost from time to time! Here are three simple steps for glowing, detoxified skin:

1.Drink PLENTY of water and stay away from hydrogenated & processed foods.
2. Exercise OFTEN, to stimulate sudoriferous-gland production.
3. Assist in the release of toxins with weekly at-home MUD treatments.

DO IT YOURSELF:
An at-home "active mud" treatment, like Borghese Fango ($37 at Bloomingdales), is fabulous for detoxifying the skin's impurities. In order for it to work at it's maximum capacity, however, it needs to be laid on THICK when applied to face and body. When treating skin at home, many women seldom think of "skin care" as a head-to-toe ritual, but rather as face and neck maintenance. The decolletage, back, arms and torso can greatly benefit from a mineral mud detox. Skin-essential minerals release impurities, rendering skin radiant, luminous and healthy. A once per week down-and-dirty mud treatment (along with proper diet and exercise) may be all your skin requires for the glow it craves. Prior to every mud treatment, I always recommend exfoliating the face and body with a good Glycolic or Salicylic acid scrub like Peter Thomas Roth, Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel ($48 at Sephora). Alpha Hydroxy and Salicylic Acid chemically exfoliates skin, leaving a prime surface for mud-mineral penetration.

TIME TO GET DIRTY:
Now that skin is prepped for the product to penetrate, apply a generous layer of mud onto the face, neck, décolleté, arms, torso and bikini-skin, allowing it to dry for about 20 minutes (this will trigger the product to release it's minerals). Rinse with warm water (using a wash cloth if needed), and repeat about twice per week.

An at-home detoxifying mud treatment is an effective way to get your skin out of rehab. It's easy, it's quick and it's affordable, how fantastic!

GROW those BROWS in!

If your BROWS are naturally thick, GROW them in. Purple lipstick is a trend...EYEBROWS do not follow trends, their job is to frame the face. We are all born with a distinctive brow-blueprint, a personal signature of you will....it's sort of like a garden full of weeds; the goal is to assess your TRUE brow shape, pull the "weeds" from the garden and establish your personal BROW-IDENTITY. The typical growth rate for eyebrow hairs are 3-6 months, however, it may take your biology 8 months for your brows to fully grow-in (I don't know, each individual is different).  If you keep your brows TRIM (to avoid an unruly mess), and you tweeze the obvious strays (such as those in between your eyebrows and the vellus hairs which grow on the fleshy part of your brow bone)....if you do THAT, the grow-in faze should be tolerable. It's like growing-in bangs, it's not easy I know! However, the end-result can be life-changing and face-lifting.  If you're in the Miami area, visit me at @CreamSouthMiami for a brow and skin analysis. Otherwise, avoid getting them waxed and TEEEZE those strays...one hair at a time.

A woman's DÉCOLLETÉ is her MOST alluring feature

A woman's décolleté is her most alluring, most beautiful feature (I think). Why is it, then, that most women don't think twice about this area? Often neglected, the décolleté (the skin from neck to bosom) is delicate and REQUIRES perpetual care and maintenance. Treat this skin as you would your FACE. If you're applying a serum and a sunscreen to your eyes and face, apply the SAME products to your décolleté and cleavage....everyday. This skin, along with your hands and eyes, is the first area to show signs of aging (yikes!). Proactive TLC makes all the difference, so I recommend that you institute a décolleté-regime, twice-per-day .....I think Marilyn would agree 😊
